Discernment & Empowerment Coaching for Women
You used to be able to handle it all.
Why does everything feel so much harder?
Sometimes nothing is exactly wrong, but something no longer feels right. From the outside, you’re doing fine. On the inside, you’re tired in a way sleep doesn’t fix, and you’re starting to wonder if the problem is you. Let’s figure out what’s actually going on.
Maybe it’s the relationship that takes more than it gives. Maybe it’s the standard you’ve held yourself to since you were twelve, the one that was always hard but doable and now feels impossible to hit. Maybe it’s 2am and you’re replaying a conversation from three days ago, or mentally organizing everyone’s week except your own.
Or maybe someone in your life, lovingly or otherwise, suggested you talk to someone.
So here you are, trying to figure out why you can’t push through like you always have, why everyone else seems to have it figured out. (They don’t, for the record.)
You want better boundaries. Less overthinking. Some version of balance. A way to keep doing it all without feeling like this.
I hear you. And we can definitely work on that.
It rarely starts with one big thing.
“When I read Stephanie’s website, I believed I had found the right person. There was something about the language that told me I would be seen there. I was right.”
-Client feedback
What if you’re not the problem?
What if you’ve just been really, really good at following rules you never agreed to?
What brings you here
Stress. Boundaries. The overthinking. A relationship that feels like a part-time job. The nagging sense that you used to be able to do all of this, and now you can’t.
These are real, and we’ll work with them. But somewhere along the way, a different question usually shows up:
Who decided you were supposed to be doing all of this?
What we usually find
Somewhere along the way, you learned what a good daughter, partner, mother, employee, and woman is supposed to do. You learned it so well you stopped noticing it was a script.
After twenty years of sitting across from women like you, here’s what I know: you’re rarely broken.
Usually, you’re exceptionally good at meeting expectations you never actually chose. And when you finally can’t keep up, you don’t question the expectations. You question yourself.
You come in thinking you need to get better at managing your life.
We get curious about whether the life you’re managing is actually the one you want.
“Your questions really helped me understand my thoughts and feelings more clearly, and I always felt heard.” - Client Feedback
You’re allowed to question the life you were taught to want.
Questioning it doesn’t mean blowing up your life. It means deciding what’s actually yours to keep.
So, how do we figure that out?
You don’t have to start at the beginning. You don’t need to walk me through your whole history before we can get anywhere. Give me the five-minute version. We’ll work with that.
Coaching with me is structured, but it isn’t rigid. We go deep enough to understand why you keep landing in the same place, and we stay practical enough that something actually changes on a regular Tuesday afternoon.
See
We get honest about what’s actually going on, and what’s been quietly running the show. Most women are surprised how much of their life is organized around expectations they never chose.
Choose
Once you know what’s yours, you get to decide what stays, what goes, and what changes. Sometimes that’s one big decision. More often, it’s a lot of small ones you finally stop second-guessing.
Discern
Not every “should” is wrong. Some of them are yours. We learn to tell the difference between the voice of fear, the voice of what you were taught, and the one that actually sounds like you.
Author
We turn insight into practice: real steps, real follow-through, and honest accountability. When something works, we celebrate it. When it doesn’t, we figure out why without making it a referendum on you.
You’ll leave with more than good memories of good conversations. You’ll leave with clarity you can actually act on, and tools you can keep using long after we’re done.
Honestly, my goal is for you to need me less.
“Being held accountable for what I said I was going to do and following up on it was really helpful. It helped me get back on track instead of making false promises to myself.” -Client feedback
Therapy or coaching?
Both are serious work, and they aren’t competing with each other. Therapy often focuses on healing and understanding. Coaching focuses on creating what comes next. Most of the difference comes down to where you’re starting and what you need right now.
I'm trained in both, so I'll tell you honestly which one fits.
Therapy might be the better fit if...
Something from your past is still running your present, and you need space to heal it.
Anxiety, depression, trauma responses, or something you suspect has a name is making daily life hard.
You’re in crisis, or you need diagnosis and treatment.
Coaching is probably right if...
You’re functioning, but something doesn’t fit anymore.
You already understand a lot about how you got here, and you’re asking, “Okay, now what?”
You want clarity about what you actually want, and help moving toward it.
Coaching is a partnership. You’re the expert on your life. My job is to ask better questions, point out what you might not be seeing, and help you act on what you find.
Coaching isn’t psychotherapy, and it doesn’t involve diagnosing or treating mental health conditions.
Understanding how you got here matters. So does deciding where you go next. Some people need one, some need the other, and some need both at different points in their lives.
After 20 years as a licensed mental health counselor, I know that perfectionism, people-pleasing, and second-guessing yourself are rarely just a motivation problem. That understanding shapes how I coach, even though the work itself stays coaching. And if something comes up that would be better addressed in therapy, I’ll tell you honestly and help you explore the right support.
Not sure which one you need? That’s exactly what the free consultation is for.

You don’t need another place to just talk about it.
You need someone who knows what to do with it.
Why does that matter for you?
Because when you tell me you can’t seem to set a boundary, I’m not going to assume you just need to be more assertive. I understand that keeping everyone happy might be something you learned to do long before you had a choice. When you’re questioning your career, relationship, or direction in life, we can look beyond the immediate decision to understand the beliefs and expectations influencing it.
I bring clinical depth to the way I understand people, but coaching is a distinct discipline. I pursued formal coach training, supervised experience, and board certification because I believe you deserve a coach who is genuinely trained to coach, not simply someone with good advice.
That combination means we can go beneath the surface without turning every conversation into therapy. I notice patterns, remember the details, and connect things you might not realize are related. I’ll ask questions that help you see something differently, and we’ll translate those discoveries into decisions, practical tools, and real action.
You’ll also have access to exercises and frameworks I’ve developed for this work, designed to help you distinguish between fear, inherited expectations, and what you genuinely want. This isn’t about following someone else’s formula for a better life. It’s about developing the clarity and confidence to make your own decisions.
And here’s what you can expect from me personally: I’m warm, but I’m direct. I’ll listen without judgment, tell you what I see, challenge you when it’s useful, and celebrate the progress you’re tempted to dismiss. You don’t have to edit yourself or make your story more palatable for me.
I take the work seriously. I just don’t take myself too seriously. More about me here.
“It isn’t just about the process. It is about the provider... I was seen. I was heard. And she knew what to do with what I brought into the room. That matters enormously.” - Client Feedback
When you’ve spent years holding everything together, you don’t need another person telling you to set better boundaries, think positively, or try harder. You need someone who can recognize what’s happening beneath the surface and help you make sense of it.
I’m Stephanie Butler, a licensed mental health counselor and Board Certified Coach with 20 years of clinical experience, including 11 years as a clinical director. I’ve spent my career learning how people really work: why we get stuck, why patterns repeat, and what actually helps someone change.
And I’ve never stopped studying.
My professional development reflects a deep interest in the whole person: trauma and the nervous system, women’s mental health and midlife transitions, the influence of hormonal changes on emotional well-being, and the ways identity, relationships, spirituality, and cultural conditioning shape our choices.

She gets excited on your behalf about things you might believe are small, and makes sure you celebrate properly.”

“Every day I am able to pull from my arsenal you helped me build to tackle the bullshit stuff that shows up. The self talk will make or break us. I will not let it break me any more... You actually had to teach me to be comfortable with the new mental space! That. Was. A Lot. But what a relief to use that space for something more positive.”

Ways to Work Together
You don’t have to redesign your whole life to benefit from coaching. Sometimes you need perspective on one situation. Sometimes you need time to understand what’s really going on. And sometimes you’re ready to put all the pieces together and actually change things.
All sessions are 60 minutes, held virtually wherever you are, or in person if you’re local. Not sure where to start? That’s what the free consultation is for.

Frequently asked questions
-
Yes. Coaching sessions are held virtually, so I work with clients across the country and internationally. If you’re local, in-person sessions are available too.
-
My work focuses on women, because so much of it centers on the expectations women are raised with. But I work with men too, and much of the same process applies. If you’re curious whether it’s a fit, let’s talk.
-
That’s usually exactly why people come. Most women are clear on what isn’t working and much less clear on what would. Figuring that out is the work, not a prerequisite for it.
-
It really depends.
Often, yes, as long as the two are focused on different things. We’ll talk it through in your consultation to make sure coaching makes sense right now.
-
No. Coaching isn’t a medical service, so insurance doesn’t cover it. That also means there’s no diagnosis and nothing goes on a medical record.
-
Then I’ll tell you, honestly and kindly. My clinical background means I’ll notice if something underneath needs more than coaching, and I’ll help you think through the right next step.
-
We talk about what’s going on, what you’re hoping for, and whether working together feels like the right fit for both of us. If it does, I’ll help you figure out which package makes the most sense. No pressure either way.
-
It’s easy. Reach out to book a free consultation, and I’ll email or call you, whichever you prefer. We’ll talk about what’s going on and whether working together makes sense, and go from there.
You don’t have to have the answer before you start asking the question.
If something on this page sounded familiar, pay attention to that. Book a free consultation, and we’ll talk about what’s going on, what you’re hoping for, and whether working together makes sense. No pressure. Just a real conversation.
